311 with special guest Zebrahead at the Tabernacle Atlanta, GA October 31st, 2000 |
|
My Story: The night started with Alyssa and I goin down and gettin the tix and then hookin up with my friend Chris and some of his friends inside the Tabernacle. We all stood around drinkin and chillin' for a while, but Chris had to jet for some reason... but both his friends and I are still baffled as to his whereabouts. Nevertheless, Zebrahead busted on to the stage all dressed up like Limp Bizkit. Zebrahead was damn good, and really played into the crowd and had everyone into it. After Zebrahead finished I worked my way through the crowd up to the front next to the stage... It was tight as hell and oven hot... But I was determined to get up in there like I did last Halloween for 311... However, once 311 came on stage, that scene got nasty... I missed watching much of any of the first 3 songs 'cause I was busy trying to push people off me and keep from falling down from the swaying masses of people... Since I was there to see the show, I decided to bail on the stage side action, and pulled out. (safety first).... After getting some H2O and regrouping, I headed in again but this time stayed about halfway down on the Tabernacle main floor. That spot worked out for me. Good view, crowded, but not too crowded... Good vibe... 311 came out decked out in costume... Nick came out as Superman (with the band playing the REM remake "Superman"). 311 threw down some kick butt tunes and generally had it going on. The played some new tunes, and a few cuts that they don't play often. After the show I bought a tour shirt and went outside and socialized. I looked for Alyssa since we were separated inside, but another friend said she had left... So, I made my way around to the back to watch the band come out to their tour bus... After a good wait, P-Nut came out and worked his way signing autographs and chatting... He was real cool and real social... He had some cool shit to say: He said the band is going into the studio as soon as they get back, and said they want to get the new album out hopefully around May, but the impending legal problem with their label will need to be resolved first. He signed my t-shirt as well... Chad Sexton came through signed the shirt... SA Martinez came through signed the big T... then... after a lil bit, Nick Hexum came out, and he spent some good time chattin and signing... I got to shake his hand and ask him about the sound of the new tunes, and he said that the first set of the tunes they have are like they ones they played tonite, but he said the 2nd half of the tunes they are collecting for the new album will be louder, faster, and heavier... (he came out a couple more times before nights end and I had a chance to talk with him a couple more times... a very cool down to earth guy)... after a long ass wait, Tim Mahoney came out and signed stuff and talked to the remaining fans... He was also real cool and personable (and probably baked)... he signed the Tshirt of course and that ended my objective for the night... By this time it was like 230 am... I had to walk back to the dorms from the Tabernacle since MARTA shuts down at 1a... Walking Techwood at 3am is NOT something I recommend for the kiddies, but for this night, it was worth it... That about sum's up my 311 night... A definite dream to meet and really feel like I chilled out with the band... It was awesome to be able to ask them questions and shake their hands. Good tunes. Good night. |
